Texas Students Pack Bookbags; Teachers Pack Heat
In Harrold, Texas the school board is allowing a number of the personnel there to carry guns in the K-12 school for added safety. While some people think it was a hasty decision the school board considered it for around two years. This policy was not installed until last fall. The news of this was just released. Some parents were apposed to the idea most thought that this idea was fine and even felt that their kids were safer. The school already has locked doors and cameras so some wonder why the need guns too. The reason for this is if anyone had harmful intentions toward students no matter what precautions and laws are passed they will do it anyway.
"When you outlaw guns in a certain area, the only people who follow that are law-abiding citizens, and everybody else ignores it," Thweatt, the Harrold superintendent, said.
All the teachers that do carry a concealed weapon are trained on handling any type of situation, including a hostage situation. The teacher are required to use bullets the least likely to ricochet so that the risk of a miss ricocheting and hurting a student is minimized. All safety precautions that can be taken are taken in this situation.

Bombers kill dozens as violence erupts in Iraq.
This story is about Iraq. Recently, in the towns of Diyala, Jalula, and Tikrit, (which is north of Baghdad) explosions have killed over 30 people. This might not be such a surprise, because we hear of bombings all the time here in the U.S., but these towns have been relatively quiet in the last few months. There were three bombs. One exploded and killed 25 police recruits. Another killed a whole family. And yet another killed four. This particular bombing might not be in textbooks 20 years from now, but the topic will. The American soldiers have been in Iraq since October 11, 2001, and many are still there today. In some ways, this war on terrorism no longer includes the United States, but has turned into a somewhat Civil War. The American troops in Iraq now do more helping than fighting. Although Iraq still has problems, I believe that the American soldiers are setting a wonderful example to the Iraqi people, and to everyone else.
Mary Ashleigh's current event
This particular article is about Michelle Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night (August 25th) regarding her husband,Barack Obama. In her speech she talks about hers and Barack's beliefs. Barack Obama, according to his wife, has the same values as other Americans. When she speaks of Barack's childhood one thing that stood out to me is that he was raised by a single mother. She later on also mentioned that with Barack running for president it has made her a proud American, not proud of the country but proud of the political beliefs. Her speech will most likely be remembered in years to come.

Here are the rules.
Here are the rules.
- This is not a social networking site, so don't add stuff that I don't assign you.
- Use good grammar here, I hate text language, so utilize your grammar and spell checker on your computer
- Have fun with it and learn to think for yourself.
- And don't plagiarize (that means copying). If you cheat, I'll find out!
So lets let the school year begin and lets learn from history!
